Not pictured : the rear license plate held on by copious amounts of masking tape.

I’ve heard this is a real problem for W210s, but I’ve never seen it. Really good cars otherwise.

They rusted exceedingly quickly in the rust belt. Like visible body rust in less than five years bad . The last one I saw was a year or two ago. It was similarly rusty, had a collapsed suspension, and was abandoned in a liquor store parking lot. I posted it here. I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw one without rust. It’s too bad. These are the last Merc sedans that I found genuinely attractive.

Nothing could save those in the rust belt. I swear they were factory equipped with rust.

These rusted extraordinarily quickly here in the rust belt. It’s been probably a decade since I’ve seen a rust free one. Could ea sily be longer. These would have visible body rust within five years. They are very r arely seen now, and when you do, they all look like this.

So what happened with these was that it was the first era generation with water based paint. And it didnt work. W202 and w220 both would rust like this in the worst cases.
Being said, some got out completely fine, especially garaged ones. And as long as you commit to repairing it, the metal is still thick and can be saved early enough.
That one though is way past gone

I can't remember the last time I saw a clean one of these. Probably a decade plus.

While I cant say mine was flawless, she hid her 328000 miles well. But its true that a properly good one has become rare now.
